Seems daft, unless they wanted to get a quick fix out for the vulnerability issue, but then the revision number appears to makes no sense...

Ahh, look again, the beta is 3.7.4.RC4, not an RC of the release is 3.7.4.4, so the beta could be aimed at 3.7.4.5 or 6 or whatever.
