vigor 166 dns and time in bridgemode

The router I use has a separate WAN port for the PPoE traffic, not seen any data loops in my situation.

Well I'm glad you don't have a problem ... but I don't understand what you mean by a "separate WAN port ".
To what does this WAN port connect - if not the Vigor 166:?:
(I thought you had two connections from your Router to the Vigor 166 - one from a LAN port and one from its WAN port)

I also had no problem also connecting the 2nd port to a Lan port on an AMPLIFI Alien Router. The first port from the Vigor goes to the Alien Wan port for PPOE traffic.
I could then interrogate the Vigor 166 interface using an IP address set on same subnet as main network Lan.
I’m no longer using the Vigor 166 as it took my snr from 3 to 9 in a couple of weeks (normal VDSL, not G. Fast).
Now using Zyxel VMG4005-B50A with Broadcom chip set although kept the Vigor 166 for now as option if G fast came available but not likely in our area. Full FTTP is what we want.
