Vigor2862Ln really poor wifi speed ? was created by andy2uk
Hi All...
i connected my Vigor 2862Ln to my Virgin media 2.4gh Wifi to enable IPSEC VPN..
but before i touch the Lan2Lan VPN settings i checked the WiFi connection speed...
i was shocked to see I'm getting about 5mb down and .5 mb up..... on a connection about 3 meters apart... :o
if i connect the laptop direct to my Virgin router i get 80+mb down and 9mb up.... so i know i have no issues with my internet speed or Wifi router..
I have read that the WiFi suffers on these routers but has anyone had speed issues and resoved it..
?
FW 3.9.4_BT
Thanks
Andy

I don't know what's causing the Wifi issue...
but don't you want the Virgin Media box to be in Modem-mode and plugged into the WAN of the 2862? (Then use the 2862's Wifi (and LAN) for the rest of the clients). There's a lot more chance of the IPSEC VPN working (without the NAT'ing). (I never felt happy with the fact that Virgin Media has remote access to their box (in Router mode) and have some sort of visibility of your network...)

yeah... i should have mentioned that the VM box is in modem mode and i connect to a TP-link N600 router ..( i know VM routers are terrible for wifi range )
todays testing shows at 1.5mb down..8mb up via wifi... im going to try the 2.9.6 firmware to see if that helps .

Just thought id try tethering via my mobile phone..( vodafone )

i just found the last multipage thread about the same issue... seems its a flaw with Draytek that the WiFi is flawed..
i will have to hardwire it instead....
Cheers all

Suggest to
1. scan the air and see if router is using crowded channel, and change to another clear channel if possible.
2. use WPA2 AES, don't use WEP or TKIP to get best performance
the wireless speed should go above 100Mbps if in short distance with line of sight.
