Hi all,

I have a customer who has recently moved away from his WISP connection that had a static IP onto Starlink which of course only uses CGNAT. He now wants to dial-in whilst travelling to access documents stored on his local NAS which he could before but not now.

Been looking at the VPN matcher options to see if this would work for a 'road warrior' type dial in but when setting up the client information (Dial in machine) it asks for a local ip address which of course will change from location to location therefore am assuming this will not work. I've looked at the support pages and can't see anything that deals with a roaming client machine.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks

Hello,

As per my knowledge, Given the shift to Starlink and its use of CGNAT, your best bet might be setting up a dynamic DNS (DDNS) service combined with a VPN. The DDNS will give you a consistent hostname to reach your home network, despite the changing IP addresses.

For the VPN, you can use something like OpenVPN or WireGuard, which can handle roaming clients effectively. They don’t rely on a fixed local IP for the client, so it should work well for your customer’s needs.

I hope this will help you!
