WAN Alias problems on 2962 - 4.4.3.1 was created by pcjazzit
We are migrating from a 2927 to a new 2962

WAN 1 has 4 IP addresses allocated to it. with the Primary IP on the WAN 1 Details "Specify an IP address" as xxx.xxx.xxx.234
Wan Alias on the 2927:
1 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.234 <-- this is editable, but any changes do not stick
2 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.235
3 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.236
4 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.237

This all works find and WAN 1 - Alias 1 can be selected for routing and OPEN/Port forwarding

HOWEVER.... on the 2962 with the same WAN 1 Details "Specify an IP address" as xxx.xxx.xxx.234
The Alias on the 2962
1 Enabled  ---- <-- this is editable but any changes do not stick ß this should be xxx.xxx.xxx.234
2 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.235
3 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.236
4 Enabled xxx.xxx.xxx.237

WAN 1 Alias 1 can be selected for Routing but displays as WAN 1 1----
WAN 1 Alias 2 cannot be selected in OPEN Ports or PORT forwarding. The other Alias can be selected

PIA.

Is this symptomatic of 4.4.3.1 or am I missing something.

Should also point out that you cannot restore config from 2927 to 2962 so these setting must be manually input on the new 2962.

Cheers

No idea of the answer (sorry!) but I like how your original router goes from being a 2929 to a 2926 to a 2927 during the course of the post...

I'm slightly puzzled by your setup. I have 5 WAN IP addresses allocated by my ISP but the WAN address in Alias Index 1 is always what the ISP calls my "Router Address" and cannot be changed by me - could this be why your "changes do not stick"? Also, you appear to have two identical IP addresses in Indexes 3 and 4 - can that work?

Apologies I wrote the original post quickly and did not sanity check it. Doh!

Thank you for your eagle-eyed replies. I have updated the original post to be more or less correct.

@ ianfretwell the original Router is a 2927 and doesn’t identify as any other router.

@ piste basher The Alias 1 is the ISP Router address, and I agree should not be editable. Alias 3 and 4 should be different, my mistake.

I have raised a ticket with Draytek they are investigating possible Firmware issue.

Hi,

I have this working with 4.4.3.1 FW (2962), only difference being, I’m using the WAN1 “port” as a LAN port, to utilise the 2.5GbE throughput; for VLANs.

So my WAN1 is actually using WAN3 Port and this allows me to use the alias IP WAN addresses without any issues; to be fair I haven’t even tried it via the WAN1 port with this FW and probably will never need to.

Regarding your note about 2927 to 2962 config restore, I totally agree with you, it’s a PITA. It took me ages to copy all the settings over, even when I tried to backup and restore individual sections of the config. Some restored ok, whereas others were a complete mess. Firewall rules for example were all over the place!

A note to be mindful of too, doing it the way I did, and this took me a while to spot, on my restored VPN Dial-in profiles, all profiles had the ‘Idle timeout’ setting set to some long 8 digit number and not ‘-1’, which was causing the connection to bomb-out after only a few seconds of successful connection.

Another odd thing I noticed with the 2962, is it doesn’t have ‘Auto backup’ to USB for the config, which nearly all the other models in the DrayTek product line up do have.
