Do I have a faulty Vigor2766 (TalkTalk ISP) was created by seajays
My previous FTTC connection had been very stable for many years, coming in at about 25Mbps download/3.8Mbps upload at 3dB SNRM.
My new Vigor 2766 has been appalling.
These were the stats on Sunday 11th June.

By Friday 16th, after a couple of overnight resyncs it had dropped to this:
I gave up and put my Sky router in temporarily, and it immediately resynced right back up at 21MBps, (though on 6dB SNRM)
I am using the latest 4.4.2.1_BT firmware - is my unit faulty? Why is it behaving so poorly on the line, when my old Sky Router isn't having any trouble at all?

I don't think you have a faulty Draytek. It's just different makes perform better on certain lines than others. There are a couple of issues:
- you have a high CRC count which may suggest an issue on the line (especially that you have interleave on on both down- and upstream); ask TT to run a test to eliminate any issues that can be fixed by Openreach
- you're connected to a Huawei cabinet and from my experience, Drayteks don't work well with them if you have a problematic line (noise etc.)
Also, you can:
- try different modem codes
- give up Draytek, which is Lantiq-based and use your Sky router, which, I presume, is Broadcom-based (just like your cabinet)
Once you identify the issue, you can then force a lower SNR margin on your Draytek to get a better connection speed; I'd not worry about the speed just yet.
Good luck!
PS When you say your previous FTTC connection was better, do you mean a different provider? TT uses a different backhaul than, say, BT (BT, Plusnet, for example) so the two aren't comparable.

Yeah - I had openreach engineer out and he checked the line right back to the RJ11 cable in the back of the router. He didn't see anything that was of concern (we are a long way from the cabinet, and we have parts which are aluminium cabling apparently!)
I was with sky previously, and we had solid connection with them which would stay up for months at a time. At around the 25/4 up/down with 3dB SNRM. Moved to talktalk a few weeks ago.
As said, I'd left the draytek in for a week to see if things might improve, but they were getting steadily worse. I tried the alternative modem codes, but they also seemed to make things slightly worse.
I also tried forcing the SNRM lower with the draytek command line, however it wouldn't even resync at all when I tried that. I had to reboot to get things working again.
Problem with the sky router is I'm locked into their DNS as there is not option to change it - as I'm no longer with sky it means I can't control family safety protection setting etc. Problem with the talktalk router was my Plex Media server is unable to cast to my Chromecast devices as it appears to have some type of DNS rebind protection which cannot be disabled and is blocking it working properly (which was why I'd gone for a third party router).
Sounds like I backed the wrong horse with draytek. . Any suggestions on what routers might be a good alternative?

If you have alluminium cabling, then the likelihood is that you'll have problems with any type of router. Did you have the same pair (for the connection) when you were with Sky? Was it copper all the way?
Being a 1km away isn't as much a factor here as having alluminium cabling.
Openreach, at least in my case, will do whatever to avoid expensive work like replacing alluminium with copper. They're like a sect so I'd not necessarily trust what the engineer said. What he probably said was that your line was *within parameters*, though still with problems, as within parameters doesn't mean fine or good. So, paying attention to the words is very important.
There are a number of routers based on Broadcom chipsets and since you've also started a thread on the kitz forum, they'll probably advise you there on that. One of them is zyxel. However, the Broadcom/Lantiq thing isn't proven and what you need to do is experiment with different routers as some are better than others. For example, Fritzbox 7530 is Lantiq based but it does much better than Draytek on my line and is comparable with zyxel in terms of performance. However, if there's a problem with the line, no matter what you try you'll have problems so in the first place you should tackle the root cause of the problem.
