I'm looking for some advice please.

I currently have a 2862 with a backup of a 2860 and have vdsl2. Both of these connect to the internet at 55mb down and 10 up.

I and considering getting a 166 (or a 167, but I can't find any information on the differences) to get faster connectivity.

But have a couple of questions:

1. Is it likely I will get faster connectivity by adding a 166 by plugging it into the wan2 port of the 2862 and 2860?
2. I have started using ddns, have several vpn's coming in and I use a sip based PBX, so it is important that adding the 166 between the internet and the router will not prevent or slow these down

Thoughts and advice appreciated.

Why do think the link will be faster than using the inbuilt modems in the 2860/2862 :?:

(It may be - but experimenting with the different firmware variants (with their different 'modem codes') may also be faster. Twiddling the SNR parameters, may also make them faster.

Good answer and I have done a little more research....

Two observations, 1. the 2862 is now old and I was hoping technology would have moved further forward 2. G.Fast and/or 35b.

However, I have subsequently found out:

1. G.fast has been abandoned in the UK by BT after political pressure for full FTTP in preference.
3. 35b, there were never any plans for 35b in the UK, again because of the push for FTTP.

So I think I have answered my own question. There is no point... So I'll stick with the inbuilt modem in the 2862. Hay ho!
