Utility to export backup into human readable text was created by craigski
Does this exist at Draytek? If not why not?
We have some EOL Draytek routers that we would like to get the configuration from in the form of a backup, so we can document settings and then apply these settings to a newer model.
I know you can restore a backup from say a 2862 to a 2865, but what is the easiest way to get settings from a 8 year old 2830 with 8 years worth of settings (VPN users etc) to a newer 2865?
TIA!

The config. files for the AP903 and AP802 Access Points are just plain text. Maybe it's the future:?:
You can explore the Telnet commands ...
On the 2830, for example,
"vpn list " - shows all LAN_to_LAN profiles,
"vpn list n in " and "vpn list n out " - shows details including PSK and passwords.
"vpn dinset " does something similar for Dial-up Users.

Because the configs are binary, stored in mapped memory, not an interpreted text config.

But that doesn't preclude exporting them to a human readable format (just like they do for the AP802/AP903). It just means the import routine has to be a bit more robust. (Garbage-In, Garbage-out and all that - or its modern version: "An unexpected error occurred, please try later" )

I wish there was such a tool as well.
I want to migrate from a 2920 to a 2927, but there is no way to import the old cfg.
Now I need to browse through all the menu options and make screenshots. Nat exactly very convenient.
