I cannot get Sky+ on demand/cinema/catch up to commence a download.

It's a while ago now but, yes, I think I set DNS on box too, although I tend to use cloudflare as primary DNS and Google servers as secondary (on the basis that if one company had service issues the other should keep working! Also tests for me have proved cloudflare very slightly, but consistently, faster than Google).
Almost certain I did so...I believe I would have done this at same time as manually assigning static IP to box.

My Sky Q box uses DHCP and obtains the address of 2 DNS servers on my internal network. Those DNS servers forward to OpenDNS, as required. This works OK.
I don't believe I ever got Wifi access working - I thought it might have been related to my VLANs (which caused grief with the Sky box's use of DHCP, for some reason) but I didn't pursue the Wifi problem to a conclusion. (I just a got a generic "failed to connect" message from the Sky box).
