DHCP and DNS servers (Vigor 2860) was created by bluefin2105
Firmware 3.8.9.5_BT
I have noticed that my DHCP clients are acquiring the DNS server values provided by the ISP, rather than being set to use the router as a proxy. As far as I can tell from the guide, If the “DNS Server IP Address” fields in LAN -> General Setup -> Details Page are left blank (which they are) then the clients should all get the address of the router as their DNS server (which is what I would prefer). Any suggestions as to why this may not be working and how I might fix it please?
Thanks,
Pete

Hello @bluefin2105
You might want to look at my answer here to decide how to enable the DNS server IP address feilds. (clue - don't leave them blank)
https://forum.draytek.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=21031#p93456
Basically Draytek changed how this feature works and didn't bother to update the manual.
Hope this helps
John.

Glad I found this old thread. Been beating my head against this all evening. I thought it would be possible to use a third party DNS (google or OpenDNS) and still have the router hand out its own address to DHCP clients and act as a caching proxy. But it seems not! In order to force DNS to go through the router, I have to enter its own IP into the two DNS fields, but then it proxies through to the ISP's DNS and I can't find a way override it. Seems like a bit of a limitation.

Correct me if I am being stupid, but I have just noticed in
LAN - General Setup this
Force router to use "DNS server IP address" settings specified in (lan x)
Setting in the LAN dns address fields 1.1.1.1 & 9.9.9.9 displays them on the Status display.
Is this what you wanted?
I rebooted and they are still set correctly.
I also notice that sometimes the 2860 starts off with 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 (yuk), then gets the ISP dns addresses.
