Connect Vigor2862 Wan2 to BT Router Help was created by pmits
Hi All,
This has probably been asked a lot of times here, so apologies in advance. However, as much as i've trawled through posts, i'm still having an issue getting a connection between my new Vigor 2862n and a FTTP BT Router.
If anyone can provide a clear solution while I still have hair left, it would be much appreciated.
The BT Setup
We have fibre to the premises which is connected directly to a BT Router. The BT Router is connected to the WAN port on the BT Smart Hub.
Naturally, this works fine, however the BT Smart Hub is to be removed and replaced with the Vigor 2862.
The New Vigor Setup
I have connected the Vigor 2862 WAN2 port to a port directly on to the FTTP BT router.
With the exception of a few minor changes listed below, the rest of the Vigor 2862 settings are a factory default.
My Vigor settings are as follows
WAN Settings Screen
Wan1 is disabled as the DSL port is not being used
Wan2 is enabled with the following settings:
Enabled: YES
Display name:
Physical Mode: Ethernet
Physical Type: Auto Negotiation
Active Mode: Always On
Load Balance: Unticked
VLAN Tags: Customer and Service both disabled
WAN -> Internet Access Settings Screen
PPPoE: Enable
ISP Access Setup: my username (xxxxxxxx@hgxx.btclick.com )
Password: my password
Wan Connection Detection: PPP detect
MTU: 1492
PPP/MP Setup: PAP or CHAP
IP Assignment: Dynamic
Static or Dynamic IP Tab
Static or Dynamic IP: Disable
When I check my online status and physical connection, the WAN2 status only says: Message [PPPoE: No response from server side]
I have looked that up also, but no joy!
I thought this would be a pretty straight forward plug in to the WAN2 port and away we go - how wrong was I !
If anyone can provide a clear solution or has it working themselves and can post the config I am missing, then I would be grateful!
Many Thanks in advance!

Is this any help?
https://tinyurl.com/yyyqgcqj or similar posts on how to set up the boxes which you have from the BT help / forum pages
Or simply examine the configuration pages from the SmartHub you have
But as a non-expert I could be on the wrong track.

Hi inspectorman,
Thanks for your quick reply! I have looked through your post (and some other BT posts previously) but not managed to resolve the issue.
As a note, I have tried the quick wizard and run through the Static and Dynamic set up rather than PPPoE to see if this helps resolve the problem.
Unfortunately, i hit a brick wall there also and no connection.
Something is missing (other than my braincells).

Maybe to help diagnosis on the 2862 use LAN/LAN Port Mirror to mirror WAN2 port to e.g. LAN port 2 with a computer connected there running Wireshark. You will then see the messages sent/received which will hopefully show which message is not being responded to.
