Correct.
Agreed.

That may be only for QoS...so if you don't enable it, the limit doesn't apply ?admin wrote:
Correct.
I've never had need of QoS and certainly the 2860 can do the 220 Mbps with it switched off.g6ifs wrote:

Just like to add my two cents.
I have a 2860n+ on a VM 350Mb circuit. The router can only manage abot 220Mb throughput on WAN2 with the VM Hub in Modem Mode. Ive tried various FW on the 2860 to no avlail, I have all the QOS and Firewall options off yet no speed increase,
If i connect my system to the VM Hub in router mode I cant get almost 390Mb.
Looks like I need to upgrade.

Try disabling WAN1 on the Vigor 2860, then turn on Hardware Acceleration - that does limit some of the router's features for sessions that get accelerated, but you should see a good improvement in speed.

I have tried both a 2860ac and a 2862ac with the Virgin Media business service as the original poster has - ie via the Hitron device.
Both get me the full 350 Mb/s when I use the WAN 2 port on the 2860 and 2862. If you are buying new I'd suggest the 2862 as it is rated for 400 Mb/s throughput. While the 2860 was rated for 300 Mb;s I still did get 350 through it.
However for more power you might want to consider the 2960 (rated for 500 Mb/s) or the 3900 rated at 1000 Mb/s These two use a Linux based OS and as such have a different interface, but are great devices. Both have been around for a while so not sure if there is a new model due soon in the Linux range?

That's unfortunate, it may be useful to test that briefly though, so that you can determine whether Hardware Acceleration will allow the router to make full use of the line, or if using a newer/faster router like the Vigor 2862 series, or Vigor 2960/3900 might help.
Perhaps look at the other WAN settings in addition, set the MTU of the WAN2 interface to 1500 bytes, which should be what the Virgin Media connection is using.
