Sorry for the lack of responses on this. It would appear that syslogging to a hostname does cause the router to crash but syslogging to an IP does not. No mention of a confirmed bug or a firmware fix. Just use IP if you can.

If you haven't noticed this is the latest firmware release notes, this has been resolved. Testing working too.
