Had loads of slowdown bith the BT release, tuned off hardware acceleration and it was better but still not great, did as suggested and looked for updates via the router and rolled back to the non BT firmware and all good again.

Had word from Drayrek support saying that the BT version is for BT Infinity (not sure if that means if BT is your ISP or not).
Does anybody know how to identify what vector release is most appropriate?

I have BT Infinity - and it broke my service.

The "BT" firmware refers to the BT Openreach FTTC network, so any DrayTek router connected to an Openreach FTTC cabinet should be using the BT firmware where possible.
