2830 & Demon ADSL2+ was created by mwra
Modem: Vigor 2830n, firmware 3.6.8.4_sb_2471201
I've used Demon, since 1992 for everytihng from 14kbps up to current ADSL2+ access. Yet, since moving to ADSLS+ my access has sat stubbornly as 8 MB download. Demon swear I'm not speed-gated, but speedtest.net (and others) show me connecting at up to 16MB but the test always completes are c.8MBps (99% of time <8).
My modulation settings is "ADSL 2+ G.992.5". I've tried "multimode" but with the same result.
I've had months of to-and-fro and visits, calumniating in a visit an engineers who told me I've no noise problem and all wiring onsite is not a problem. He swapped my first-get ADSL termination box for a current 'v3' one but no change.
Now Demon tell me I need a modem that supports "ADSL2+ G.992" or "auto". Is G.992.5 not G.992? It sounds like some call centre drone just reading a script too closely & without any tech knowledge (though I'm not an OS/hardware specialist). I sense I'm being given the runaround by a support person with insufficient tech knowledge.
If I can't fix this and have to dump Demon, the only other option seems to be BT, in which case what modem should I get as their sales staff don't have a clue. The current (2016) BT HH has no firewall etc so I don't want to leave my Mac/PC/devices network open to script kiddies.
Any advice? TIA?

Of course the BT HH has a firewall!
I wouldn't choose to use a HH, but it does do the job.
I'm currently using a 2860 but only set it up today, and there is a thread on here with tales of woe with this device and BT Infinity.

@psykix, thanks. My comment about the HH and a firewall is only quoting BT staff who were adamant the HH didn't have one (albeit people who may lack tech expertise)!
