Help needed Vigor 2860AC and Virgin Media setup was created by l33h4ll
I'm currently trying to configure Vigor 2860AC with a Virgin Media business router (Hitron cgnv4)
The Virgin router is configured with IP 192.168.10.248/24 connected to 2860AC using Ethernet from one of the Virgins Gigabit LAN ports to the WAN2(giga) port on the 2860AC which is configured with IP 192.168.10.249/24
I have also disabled DHCP and Wireless on the Virgin router
Network PC's are configured with static IP's in the 192.168.10.0/24 range and have 192.168.10.249 as their gateway DNS 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4
I have disabled all WAN except for WAN2 on the 2860AC which is configured like so
WAN2 EHTHERNET
Physical Mode: STATIC IP
Physical Type: AUTO NEGOTIATION
IP Address: 192.168.10.248
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.10.248
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
The 2860AC does detect the Virgin router as being connected
However none of the PC's on the network are detecting any internet connection.
Am I missing something?
Poking around various articles etc. I have seen mention about putting the Virgin router into Modem Only mode which according to the hitron cgnv4 documentation on Virgin Medias website it should have a ‘RG function’ (Residential Gateway) which you should disable however on our router this option is not there.

It's not working because the WAN subnet and the local subnet are the same - this fails because attempts to reach the gateway only go to the local LAN rather than through the Vigor 2860ac because of how the subnets are configured.
If you set up the 2860ac with a different subnet such as 192.168.11.1/24 for LAN1, that would get it working

The 2860 will need to be 192.168.10.0/24 network as that's what client PC's are pointing to as their gateway (192.168.10.249)
But working along your lines could I configure the virgin router to be on a different subnet say 192.168.11.248/24
If so what would the WAN gateway be configured to?
Would it be the 2860's IP or the Virgin routers IP?

You can change the Virgin router's IP instead if there's an existing network
So changing the Virgin router to 192.168.11.1/24 and giving the 2860ac's WAN2 interface 192.168.11.2, should get everything working.

I managed to get it working. I hadn't realised that the Virgin router had to be on a different subnet.
Also that the WAN2 IP could be an arbitrary IP in the same subnet as the Virgin router then set the gateway to the IP address of the Virgin router.
