2860 DNS not giving IP for DHCP clients was created by Andrew
I have a 2860 which is a DHCP server on the local LAN. Why does the router fail to respond to a DNS request with the IP address of a DHCP client? I'm testing with nslookup as shown below. I would have expected DNS server in the router to respond to this request (as it allocated the IP address via DHCP). Why does this nslookup command fail?
nslookup TestPC
Server: VIGOR.router
Address: 192.168.65.254
*** VIGOR.router can't find TestPC: Non-existent domain

That error with nslookup is due to there being no Reverse Lookup Zone configured on the router, which I think you will find is normal for a router

Yes, it's a DNS server (proxy) - the public DNS system doesn't know about your local/private devices/clients.

You can add local entries. Use the LAN DNS settings. Application>>LAN DNS/DNS Forwarding.
The router will check this table first before forwarding requests.
