2925 - detection of ADSL 'line up' status? was created by davidsh
Hi
I have a 2925 connected to a 2820 on WAN1 and 2800 on WAN2.
I have them set to ARP detect that the line to the 2800/2820 is active. Even if the actual ADSL line is disconnected, the 2925 still sees the line as active and the connection slows dramatically as it tries to route traffic through a WAN that is down. It also fails to do any fall-over from WAN to WAN as it doesn't think there is a problem.
I changed it to Ping detect, which seems to do the job better if I set an external IP address e.g. Google. It will show the WAN as down when the ping through the disconnected 2800/2820 fails. My questions are:
1. Does anyone know how often the router pings the connection. I don't want to be bombarding any external IP address with unnecessary traffic. Alternatively can you suggest a site that happily accepts ping checks?
2. When the 2925 detects that the WAN is down as the ping fails, it shows it as disconnected. It then doesn't seem possible to connect to the down WAN's router status page via a browser window using the WAN's IP address (whereas when it is showing connected it connects freely). Is this normal?
Thanks
David

You can also tick both wan 1 & 2 with any traffic policy, that should work & do fail over easy
I am not sure about the other 2 questions about ping, sorry
