how to revive a dead router after power cut was created by leapy
Hi
A neighbour's house caused a power cut in the street last night. Woke up this morning with the power back on but a dead Vigor 2820n router. No lights, no response to power switch.
Anything I can try to revive it before shelling out £x00's on a new device?
Thanks
L

 Before you start it may be good point to check & Power Supply if is been damage
Get the Firmware Upgrade V.3.6.5 (Windows) tool from UK support (down of their page, guessing you have windows) ... unzip it
Latest firmware is 3.3.7.5 & use 232201 modem code, which is fine for most lines (assuming is the normal 2820 & not the one with IPPBX)
ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor2820/Firmware/
v:arrow: Note you need to use the *rst* file and Not the *all* in both updates
 Note 2 ...if you update to latest firmware take a look the released notes
Alternative you can use the same firmware he had if you know it but take some time with the utility tool and update first to 3.3.5.2 then to 3.3.7.5
follow this order to avoid time outs (have the upgrade tool ready and stand by first)
It needs window pc, i am not sure the process with mac/linux
-Disable temporary firewall at pc
-use ethernet cable & not via wifi
-set static ip at the pc (example 192.168.1.10
-open the utility upgrade tool 3.6.5
- type at IP address 192.168.1.1
 -load firmware 3.3.5.2 with the rst file(is recommended for your case)
-password try the one had last time & if timeout try admin
- leave there the upgrade tool open & stand by ...
While the 2820 is off ... press and hold gently the small reset hall button ... turn on the modem while the reset button is still under gently press ... and while the leds starts flashing ... let go the small reset button ... and press the send button at the upgrade tool before the leds at modem stops flashing fast
If any problem come back before gets permanent damage
repeat the process from the idea icon to load latest 3.3.7.5 but with admin password (after used the rst file)

.IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not upgrade directly from 3.3.5 (and earlier) to 3.3.7.5.
Due to differences in the Web UI and functionality the router MUST first be
upgraded to 3.3.5.2 prior to upgrading to 3.3.7.5.
Upgrade your router to Version 3.3.5.2 first, and afterward upgrade the router
to Version 3.3.7.5

Hi there Babis,
I have to say that most of that went wayyyyy over my head but I will certainly re-read it if I manage to get power back.
Will try tonight
Thank you

just download the firmware 3.3.5.2 & 3.3.7.5
and load via this method the 3.3.5.2
when you see the message "router is active now" then again as you have open the utility tool load the 3.3.7.5 which is the latest
