2860n-plus - PC vpn drops every 7 minutes was created by mick171
Hello, recently bought a 2860n-plus router, to replace my 2130n. I am a virgin media customer (wan 2) Now when I connect to my work network using the AT&A dialer on my laptop, the vpn drops every 7 minutes. On the 2130n I never had any issue.
I'm not using wireless. As a test I connected the 2860 as a hub servicing dhcp and plugged my laptop in. In this test the WAN was connected to the 2130n. No problems working like this.
I've tried turning every feature off but the vpn drops every 7 minutes. I'm running firmware 3.7.4.3. I'm at a lost what to do. Anyone any ideas?
Replacing the 2860n+ with the 2130n fixes my issue!

yes try the vector firmware as last attemp, it may be more stable
ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor2860/
Once is between same firmware (3.7.4.3) ust use the all* file extension where will keep all settings
The only difference is the dsl driver, all routing/wifi is the same
you can always put back the current one if you believe is still not good

Hi,
Seems the 2860 has various issues, I have issues too, not vpn related I think but I'll not test that thoroughly until I am away next week.
OK, this is what I would do. Thinkbroadband.com do a quality momitor. Set it up and turn on the response to ping requests in the router. I see you are on Virgin so I assume you are using EWAN?
Now, with that running lets's try remote VPN access. If you could transfer some files back and forth or maybe even better stream something from your home system you should be able to see it on the quality monitor, If the connection drops completely you will see that as no ping responses at all and we are looking at an EWAN issue. If the connection stays up but we lose VPN, then we are looking at a VPN issue. You did not state waht type of VPN connection you are making, what type is it?
