Draytek 2850 / Wan3 and USB Dongle was created by andyhud
Hi All
I have a USB Dongle with a UK "GiffGaff" SIM card in it. It works fine in my laptop (the dongle is completely network unlocked)
I've plugged it into my Draytek 2850 (running Firmware 3.6.4) and it picks it up and seems to connect to the internet fine. However the IP address in the Online Status screen is from an internal IP range, so I can't (or if I wanted to setup DDNS for example) connect to the Draytek remotely via the 3G connection if I wanted to
If I plug the dongle into my laptop and go tohttp://www.whatismyip.com it returns my true public IP, but I can't seem to see/get that information when it is used in the Draytek
WAN 3 Status >> Drop PPP
Enable Line Name Mode Up Time Signal
Yes USB GiffGaff PPP 0:18:43 32%
(Workable)
IP GW IP TX Packets TX Rate(Bps) RX Packets RX Rate(Bps)
10.145.28.36 10.145.28.36 1507 4 77 3
You can see above the IP and GW IP are the same. the 10.x.x.x is a private IP range, not the true external (what I would call WAN) IP
The USB Dongle is a Huawei E353.
Any ideas?
Many thanks
Andy

Perhaps this guide may helps you
http://www.draytek.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1849&Itemid=293&lang=en
also you can try the newer firmware 3.6.6 (but seems not huge changes for usb)
ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor2850/Firmware/v3.6.6/Vigor2850_v3.6.6_AnnexA/
If you do upgrade you need the *rst* file extention

Thanks for your post, useful
I have updated to 3.6.6 but no difference
Again, the problem isnt the device working, the problem is I can't see from the Draytek Web Gui what the "true" public routable external IP address is of the 3G dongle
It just shows an internal range (e.g 10.64.3.42)
If I use the same dongle on my laptop and connect and go towww.whatismyip.com I can see my true external IP address like 83.43.234.12 for example
I want DDNS in the Draytek to be updated by the true public IP address of the dongle, not the internal one
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers
Andy
