2850 and DNS on Infinity was created by runningdeere
Hi,

I have a 2850 router connected to BT Infinity (Plusnet)
I supposedly have a 'static' IP address, although I have to leave the router set to DHCP.
What I am trying to do is change the DNS servers the router is using. It picks up the DNS servers of my ISP via the DHCP but I can't see how to override this, as I could with my previous ISP - using MPoA

Can someone please tell me how I can specify different DNS servers please, as I would like to go back to OpenDNS

Thank you

Paul

Hi ... i don't have infinity but if you want to change the DNS with DrayTek's then you need to go at LAN >> General Setup>> details page>>right window>>DHCP Server Configuration>>DNS Server IP Address
After you can also go back to LAN >> General Setup and tick the box for "Force router to use DNS server IP address settings specified in" Lan 1,2,3or4
OpenDNS are very good and for my location ... better than google

And don't forget latest firmware 3.6.4 is more stable with fix at upload speed (*rst* file will need and do all settings manually back from the begin)...
if you have time to try leave you feedback here in your thread or here

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I followed that, after updating the firmware :) and I'm not sure it has worked.
I enabled VLans, and set the DHCP servers in LAN2 to the OpenDNS ones (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220) I then set the router to use DNS servers from Lan2
Below is the status page, and the DNS servers are not the ones set in LAN2, they would appear to be those from the ISP supplied via DHCP

Have I missed something?

Thanks

Paul

The DNS already has changed but the Draytek is still reporting the old or the provider ones or the ones was set at wan section (however still must changed) ... unless you go back to LAN >> General Setup and tick the small box for "Force router to use DNS server IP address settings specified in" Lan1 or Lan2 etc
(this method will report it at online status)

If you use namebench or dns benchmark tools you will see will detect the new opendsn servers

You can also simply just use CMD and type ipconfig/all
Then check at ehternet adapter local area connection and DNS servers

Yes, these are the ones from the provider for the WAN.
But they are the ones I want to change.
I can specify DNS servers for the LAN, that's not a problem, and I have a DNS server, but I would also like the router to be using the same external servers.

Thanks

I am using namebench and it detect the ones i have set at Lan ... so seems its using it & for external server (but i could be wrong)

Also At Wan>>internet access & MPoA (RFC1483/2684) it does let you use or change dns servers there but i think if you set Lan & force router option it will override it as far i know

Also Seems latest firmware are reporting DNS issues (did not checked because i have rollback firmware) so you may be related?
i m sure think is affecting few other models as they have same firmware 3.6.4
