I cannot for the life of me figure out a reason why?

Check, if the network addresses you use match the settings of the router.

if you have a network of for example:
192.168.10.0/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0), the IP Range is 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.10.254
the ip of the router has to be the default gateway for all clients.
the subnetmask must be identical for all clients.
you have to enter a working dns server in the client TCP/IP setup.
if you dont know, try opendns for a start: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

check if you can ping one of the dns servers:
open a command window/terminal:
ping 208.67.220.220

if there is no answer then most likely your network settings are incorrect (or you have activated the firewall in the router and have setup a rule to block traffic to the DNS server which is not likely). Maybe deactivat the firewall, again check your networksettings (see above) and try again.

Hi

Many thanks for your response.

Finally tracked the issue down.

I had used bind IP to MAC address in LAN settings but as I was upgrading one NAS server to another higher spec NAS server I had simply put it on to the old address, forgetting that it was bound tot eh old NAS server.

Removed the binding and all is now working fine.

Many thanks again for your help.
