I've just thrown it on mine now and notice that the modem code is different - from 211011_A to 232201_A.

Throughput seems to be down a fair bit too - from around 16mbit to 10mbit.

Old line stats (3.3.4_RC10):
Code:
--------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) ----------- Running Mode : ADSL2+(G.992.5) State : SHOWTIME DS Actual Rate : 18530844 bps US Actual Rate : 1289166 bps DS Attainable Rate : 18368000 bps US Attainable Rate : 1289000 bps DS Path Mode : Fast US Path Mode : Fast DS Interleave Depth : 0 US Interleave Depth : 0 NE Current Attenuation : 22 dB Cur SNR Margin : 6 dB DS actual PSD : 16. 7 dB US actual PSD : 12. 2 dB ADSL Firmware Version : 211011_A -------------------------------- ATU-C Info --------------------------------- Far Current Attenuation : 5 dB Far SNR Margin : 6 dB CO ITU Version[0] : 00004244 CO ITU Version[1] : 0000434d DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR : < BDCM >

New line stats (3.3.5_RC2a):
Code:
--------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) ----------- Running Mode : ADSL2+(G.992.5) State : SHOWTIME DS Actual Rate : 18778650 bps US Actual Rate : 1257162 bps DS Attainable Rate : 18808000 bps US Attainable Rate : 1257000 bps DS Path Mode : Fast US Path Mode : Fast DS Interleave Depth : 224 US Interleave Depth : 1 NE Current Attenuation : 16 dB Cur SNR Margin : 6 dB DS actual PSD : 14. 0 dB US actual PSD : 12. 2 dB ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A -------------------------------- ATU-C Info --------------------------------- Far Current Attenuation : 4 dB Far SNR Margin : 6 dB CO ITU Version[0] : 00004244 CO ITU Version[1] : 0000434d DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR : < BDCM >

Edit: corrected old firmware code to 211011_A in initial paragraph

I'm curious, how come you had such old modem firmware on before? Mine's had 232201_A on it ever since release 3.3.3?

Like an idiot, I didn't take a stats snapshot before I upgraded to RC2A but I just backgraded to 3.3.4.1 official release and this is how it looks (same modem firmware of course)

Code:
New adsl stats (3.3.5_RC2a) adsl status --------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) ----------- Running Mode : G.DMT State : SHOWTIME DS Actual Rate : 8128000 bps US Actual Rate : 448000 bps DS Attainable Rate : 8640000 bps US Attainable Rate : 1316000 bps DS Path Mode : Interleave US Path Mode : Interleave DS Interleave Depth : 64 US Interleave Depth : 4 NE Current Attenuation : 21 dB Cur SNR Margin : 7 dB DS actual PSD : 19. 9 dB US actual PSD : 12. 4 dB ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A -------------------------------- ATU-C Info --------------------------------- Far Current Attenuation : 10 dB Far SNR Margin : 27 dB CO ITU Version[0] : 00005453 CO ITU Version[1] : 00005443 DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR : < TI > Line stats with 3.3.4.1 on board adsl status --------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) ----------- Running Mode : G.DMT State : SHOWTIME DS Actual Rate : 8128000 bps US Actual Rate : 448000 bps DS Attainable Rate : 8640000 bps US Attainable Rate : 1308000 bps DS Path Mode : Interleave US Path Mode : Interleave DS Interleave Depth : 0 US Interleave Depth : 0 NE Current Attenuation : 21 dB Cur SNR Margin : 7 dB DS actual PSD : 19. 9 dB US actual PSD : 12. 1 dB ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A -------------------------------- ATU-C Info --------------------------------- Far Current Attenuation : 10 dB Far SNR Margin : 27 dB CO ITU Version[0] : 00005453 CO ITU Version[1] : 00005443 DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR : < TI >

Slight difference but not much... (rubbish transfer rates at this time of night...)

I think the different firmwares have been adapted for different line types (i.e. some may work better on longer lines than others). Though my line is short and good quality.

I notice that with our older firmware (and modem code), that DS Interleave Depth and US Interleave Depth were set at zero, but on 3.3.5_RC2b, they're all set to values of >0.

Not sure of the implication of this?

Mine is between 600-700metres so sounds similar to yours. It's very frustrating not being on an LLU exchange and thereby being able to take full advantage of such a short line.

There's a good explanation here... Interleaving

Sorry, maybe I should have said I know the general principals behind interleaving ... but generally expect it to be controlled by the DSLAM in the exchange. Indeed, my router is reporting 'fast' rather than 'interleave' - so shouldn't these values be zero?

But there again, it's been a long day and I'm probably missing something fundamental here!

That's a very good point you make and frankly, I don't have a sensible answer for that! (must admit I missed that in our table of figures...)
