Block Access to Spotify on Network was created by ryankane
Hey Guys,
I've been asked to block Spotify on our network as it's using up a lot of bandwidth on our already slow network.

We have a Vigor2800 series with Firmware version 2.8.2 installed on it.

After researching this problem I have found out you need to block access to a range of addresses all of 78.31.8.0 to 78.31.8.22. Spotify tries to connect on port 4070. If that is blocked, it will then try port 443, if that's blocked, then port 80.

How do I block a range of addresses like this? I have looked under firewall/ filter settings but everything I have tried does not work. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan

The easiest way to block that would be to block all traffic to that range of IPs would be to make a firewall rule with the destination set as 78.31.8.0 with the Subnet Mask set to 255.255.255.0(/24) which is slightly more than the actual range but it shouldn't stop anything else from working. Just set the direction as IN and the action as Block Immediately and that should work.

Just tried that and unfortunately its not working. I have taken a screengrab of the filter I have applied..
Any help is much appreciated as I'm pretty new to this stuff.
Thanks

Oops, the direction should probably be OUT for that to work sorry.
Not sure why I said to put it as IN, you'd need the addresses in the Source field if setting it up as IN.
