2860 Admin Password was created by ianireland
Hi,

I have a Vigor2860n-plus.
I mistakenly set the admin password to be blank. I can login.

I now wish to reset it. If I try and leave the old password field blank it tells me I need to enter the old password. If I try something like a space it tells me that is incorrect.

I know I can do a factory reset and get back to the default but I would also lose a number of settings that I prefer not to have re-enter.

So I have a couple of questions;

Is there a way I can reset the admin password with doing a reset.
If I do a backup, do a factory reset then restore the backup - does the backup contain the admin password?

Cheers

You can, I think, set the password from the command line with "sys passwd" it requires no confirmation of anything so be careful! Access the command line from telnet, ssh or the web console.

According to the manual you can restore the config from a backup with OR without the password...

Restore configuration except the login password - If the
password settings shall not be restored and applied to
Vigor2860, simply check this box to get rid of password
settings.

Sorted - many thanks.

I used telnet - the pdf here was useful; http://www.draytek.com.vn/download/TelnetCommands.pdf
