We tried to insert an USB memory into the front connectors of both an 2927ac and 2927ax model, in order to write the Syslog there.
The dashboard displays shows green, ie. stick inserted.
But further in the USB menu (general settings) the system replies : "no disk connected".
Used different disk sizes to no avail.
Any suggestions please? 

The most obvious thing is the file system on the USB stick.

"Only FAT16 and FAT32 file systems are supported. We recommend you to use FAT32"

Thank you, but the tried usb drives are all formatted FAT32. Formatting them again to FAT32 (just to be sure) doesn't help.

Have you checked that the USB ports are enabled?

Also, check via telnet, that nothing is disabled. In some rare situations, the GUI can struggle to load pages and report correct info; very rarely have I seen this though, VLAN enabling was one of them recently.

Have you tried disabling WAN 5 & 6? These are tied to the USB ports, so may be overriding the storage function…


I had this same problem the other day, but on a 2862. I was working on the email notifications area of the syslog page and it suddenly told me, for USB which was enabled & logging and had been for years, was warning “no disk connected”. Because I was busy with the email settings I simply de-ticked it and later, when I re-enabled it, it just worked again, it was strange. It’s still working now.

I also have 2x 2927ax’s and 1x 2927ac, but these have both been fine with USB syslogging.


Also, have you tried a different brand of USB storage device, plus, could it be a power hungry storage disk? Might be worth trying a small, older, USB stick, to see if it works with that…
