Auto Provisioning

The VigorBX 2000 is able to auto-provision the VigorPhone 350 so that the correct SIP details are sent to the phone. When a factory default VigorPhone boots on a network where the VigorBX 2000 is acting as a DHCP server, the VigorPhone 350 will detect the presence of the auto-configuration service. Before turning on the VigorPhone, a spare extension needs to be setup and enabled on the VigorBX 2000.

Auto-provisioning can significantly speed up the deployment of a VoIP Phone System and can reduce the need to repeatedly enter the SIP settings on each individual phone.

Auto-provisioning with the VigorPhone is only supported by DrayTek IP PBX Routers.

PBX Configuration

Create an Extension profile on the VigorBX 2000 by going to the [IP PBX] > [Extensions] menu, then click on the first available Index number to configure the Extension Profile:

Click OK to save and apply that Extension Profile configuration.

Go to [Application] > [Bonjour] and on there, tick Enable for the Bonjour service, it is not necessary to tick any other options:

Click OK to save and apply that setting change.

Phone Configuration

First the VigorPhone will boot up normally. When the VigorPhone is initializing the following screen will be displayed. It will then detect the network and obtain an IP Address via DHCP.

If the phone has already been configured, it is possible to factory reset the VigorPhone 350, press the Menu button, dial 6, dial 6 again and the phone will ask whether to reset or not. Press the left-most soft-key marked Yes and the phone will then restart.

Then when the auto-configuration service is detected the VigorPhone will prompt the user to enter the extension number (We have entered 1002 in this example). Press OK once that has been entered.

Enter the password configured for the extension. Press the "#" key on the handset to switch between number and letter entry. The screen will show a preview of the letter being entered.

Press OK once the password has been entered.

If the auto-configuration is successful the following screen will be displayed. The extension number will appear to the right of the arrow that indicates which account is being used. The VigorPhone can now be used to make and receive calls.

If the username and password do not match the credential for an extension configured on the IPPBX the error screen will be displayed. The user should check that they have the correct extension number and password, and that the extension has been enabled on the IPPBX

Codecs

To configure the Codec settings to match the VigorBX 2000's Codec configuration, change these settings under the [General SIP Settings] menu on the handset under the Codec Settings:

Call Waiting

On handsets that support multiple Lines, the Call Waiting facility allows a phone to take other calls while there is a call in progress. This means that the handset will ring / beep to announce other incoming calls and the PBX system will not be able to perform the Busy action, such as going to Voice Mail, because the handset has not given a Busy response.

When Call Waiting is disabled, the handset will give a Busy response and the PBX can then perform the action specified in the Busy setting of the Extension Profile.

This is configured from the [Phone Settings] menu in the handset's web interface, under the Other Settings:

Volume

The VigorPhone 350 handset volume settings are primarily controlled from the Handset Gain setting under [Phone Settings] > [Voice Settings].

• If the volume is too loud, set the Gain setting to Low
• If the volume is too quiet, set the Gain setting to High

If this setting is unavailable, update the handset to the latest firmware version, which has many improvements to the phone's audio and volume controls.

Speed Dial & BLF Keys

The Call Pickup facility of the VigorBX 2000 system operates using a dial code of "*1" by default, this can then be used in two ways:

• Group Call Pickup: Dial the Call Pickup number and the handset can then pick up a call within the same Hunt Group
• Directed Call Pickup: Dial the Call Pickup number followed by the Extension or Hunt Group number to pick up that call

The Programmable keys that are located on the side of the phone can be configured to link to other extensions for calling or transfer and can be configured perform directed call pickup if there is a call in to the linked extension. The call pickup via speed-dial facility requires the Pickup Code to be configured with the PBX system's Call Pickup number ("*1" by default) in the [SIP Account] settings.

The speed-dial buttons support BLF (Busy Lamp Field) to view the status of that handset, such as whether the handset is on a call or receiving a call.

To configure this, go to the [Phone Settings] > [Speed Dial] menu on the phone and configure the buttons as shown:

• Set the Type to BLF to enable BLF operation, otherwise set SpeedDial
• The PBX Extension or Hunt Group number in the Number field
• Select the Account that the handset will be using for these keys

Click OK to save and apply that change and the button states will update shortly if BLF has been configured. This will then show whether extensions are receiving calls or are currently on a call. If the Call Pickup number is configured in the SIP Account settings, pressing the BLF button that is blinking red (receiving call), will pick up that call using Directed Call Pickup.
